Yummily chocolate-y, without being overly sweet, and just the right amount of moist. Plus, it was a huge, GIGANTIC slice of cake that two of us girls couldn’t even finish. Tried a couple of its other cakes over at Marmalade Pantry at ION earlier, and they were pretty good as well - I liked their lemon flavoured cakes :) Will probably be returning!

We went on a Saturday afternoon and there was just one empty table left for two, perfect for us :) The place is small in general, so if you have a big group I’d suggest going over to ION instead (but you’d have to queue). Also, Marmalade Toast closes at 6pm on Saturdays (7pm on weekdays if I’m not wrong), so go early!

Singapore, Japanese Food

*This is the first of many lists to come, because we all need lists/maps/whatevers to help us...

Shiok Maki (~$17) at at Koh Grill and Sushi Bar,...

Shiok Maki (~$17) at at Koh Grill and Sushi Bar, Wisma

Flavourful, rich and satisfying. You can finish the entire roll on your own, but best to share.

Waited close to half an hour for my order though (at 12noon on Saturday), so best to go during off-peak hours. Otherwise, be prepared to queue for a seat, and then wait, again, for your order to be served. (I would say the wait is worth it for the Shiok Maki, but hey if you can avoid the crowd, why not?)

Tempura Bento (~$20) at Sugisawa Japanese Restaurant, Robertson...

Tempura Bento (~$20) at Sugisawa Japanese Restaurant, Robertson Quay

Best japanese food I’ve had in a while, honestly. I can’t say that the salmon sashimi was the best I’ve had (since I have it all the time at many other places) but the other fish (I can’t even tell what fish it is oh dear) which I don’t usually eat was not bad - much better than what I’ve had elsewhere previously.

Tempura was good, the prawns were outstanding! Like usually other restaurants would use substandard prawns, but theirs were really nice sweet and crunchy (like the prawn, not the tempura coating lol).

And I loved the mini side dishes, my favourite yam jelly and oh my the egg!! I haven’t had such nice egg in a loooong time. Just the right sweetness and texture - awesome! Can I also add that the rice with the plum sprinkles and the pickled plums were great.

Yes I’m totally raving about this place haha I’d definitely be back again soon!!!

We went on a Sunday night, at 7pm. Called 20 minutes minutes before reaching to make a reservation (lol) but there were plenty of seats when we arrived. Started filling up at around 8pm though, so just go slightly earlier if you want to secure seats for groups of 4 or more.

6 piece fried wings and drumlets (~$13) at 4fingers Bonchon...

6 piece fried wings and drumlets (~$13) at 4fingers Bonchon Crispy Chicken, Ion Orchard

Decently flavoured and crispy, but wings were small. If you’ve been to korea before and tried kyochon chicken before, I definitely prefer kyochon chicken :P Anyway 4fingers seems a little pricey and definitely not very filling (and I’m a small eater!). Might think twice before returning…?

We went on a weekend afternoon, and though there were limited seats, we managed to get a table for 4 in a couple of minutes.

Jjampong (~$13) at Manna Story, Plaza Singapore
Well I...

Jjampong (~$13) at Manna Story, Plaza Singapore

Well I definitely prefer the flavour of the Jjampong (aka spicy seafood soup noodles) I had in Korea, but my friend loved this and cleared up everything, including the ENTIRE bowl of soup.

I would also say other Korean restaurants have yummier kimchi pancakes (like, 2D1N or some of those korean restaurants at Tanjong Pagar or Chinatown), but seriously, since those usually cost twice the price of this one… um, forgiven? lol

At the end of the day… I’d go back to those places at TP or Chinatown :P

We went on a weekday night, but early enough at like 5+ so there were plenty of seats. When we passed by again at 7+, most seats were filled.

Spicy steamed fish (~$32) at Chong Qing Grilled Fish,...

Spicy steamed fish (~$32) at Chong Qing Grilled Fish, Chinatown

It was soooo spicy…!! Definitely not for the faint hearted. For those who love spicy food, this would be heaven ;)

Overall, we enjoyed the (very spicy) meal - seems like authentic chinese food (salty, oily and spicy :P but not overly so, no worries)…?

We went on a weekend night past 7pm, and the place was full so they opened extra tables next door for us… Go earlier if you can ;)

Macarons (~$2.30 each) at Canele, Raffles City

So I’ve had macarons from canele, TWG, even had them personally in France… and to be honest because I’m not a macaron connoisseur I think they’re all great and I always enjoy eating them ^^

That being said, there are certainly some flavours I prefer over others, such as the Rose one from canele!

We went over to buy them after dinner at like… 8+/9pm? And there were only a few flavours left :( So go early if you want to catch your favourite flavour!

Mac & Crab (~$18?) at &Made, Pacific Plaza near Orchard...

Mac & Crab (~$18?) at &Made, Pacific Plaza near Orchard MRT

Small, cozy place. I was satisfied with my mac & crab (it was one of the daily specials so don’t be sad if you don’t find it on the menu) - like your usual mac & cheese, with a couple of crab meat pieces (I felt that the cheese covered the taste of the crab, honestly. I’m sure you can imagine). It was lighter than the usual mac & cheese, but I still couldn’t finish it (I’m the kind of person who can’t finish her carbonara as well).

I had a taste of my friend’s burger, and it was pretty cool in my opinion! It had a different taste from the usual burgers (in an… interesting way). The toastoos (basically, toast) on the other hand, failed to impress my friends and I.

I might (or might not) return to try the burger for myself… and the caramel dessert! Apparently it’s pretty good?

We went on a weekday morning so the place was empty, but I would suppose it’ll fill up during peak hours? Given that its opened by a 3-star michelin chef, it’d be pretty popular… But anyway I’m not even sure if they take reservations.

Rice rolls (~$6.50) at Wrap and Roll, Star Vista (next to Buona...

Rice rolls (~$6.50) at Wrap and Roll, Star Vista (next to Buona Vista MRT)

Pretty much disappointed with the food there - not sure if we ordered the wrong things, or…? We basically just got this and a big yellow crepe-like thing which was full of beansprouts and maybe 2 slices of pork. The coffee was good, though, according to my friend (I don’t drink coffee :P )

I like Vietnamese food in general though! Will continue to try out other Vietnamese restaurants if I stumble upon them~

Plenty of seats available (we went on a weekday afternoon).

Beef Tortilla Burger (~$16) at The Handburger, Raffles...

Beef Tortilla Burger (~$16) at The Handburger, Raffles City

Taste was not bad, but slightly on the spicy side with a somewhat generous spattering of… black pepper? I also made sure to pick out the jalapenos I’m not a big fan :P Nothing very special, so I’d probably get just the usual original in the future, maybe? Serving was huge, just right for a guy but for the ladies you’d probably be stuffed (I couldn’t finish one side of the bun)!

Decent place for burgers, in my opinion (then again, I don’t go to burger places all that often, nor am I a picky burger person).

We reached at around… 6.30pm? on a weekend. Just in time to catch the 1-for-1 drinks promotion :P There were seats so we didn’t have to wait, but I suspect a short queue might form past 7pm on weekends. I don’t see the need for reservations though :P

Lunch Buffet (~$50) at Edge, Pan Pacific Singapore (next to...

Lunch Buffet (~$50) at Edge, Pan Pacific Singapore (next to Marina Square)

Spread and variety was good, food was deliciously well cooked and flavourful. Bonus was the friendly chefs behind the food counters ;) There was seriously a lot of variety - beyond the usual western, seafood, chinese, japanese, and dessert, there was also indonesian and indian.

Loved the place which was big and spacious so tables weren’t cramped together - good ambience. Only thing was there were a couple of flies hovering around for a bit… Other than that, I’d love to return again.

We made a reservation, but because the place is so big I’m sure they’d be more than welcome and ready to accept walk-ins, anytime.

Crispy Whitebait with Lemongrass and Chili Aioli ($12) at The...

Crispy Whitebait with Lemongrass and Chili Aioli ($12) at The Queen and Mangosteen, Vivocity

Great ambience at the place on a Saturday night, with Adele in the background (haha) - food was not bad, drinks were cool. I’d probably return again :) Slightly on the pricey side with main courses at around $26/$28? But my friend and I got a main - Bangers and Mash ($26) which was essentially sausages with mashed potatoes which were pretty good! - and pub grub (that’s the whitebait up there) to share and that was enough for us girls. Selected drinks before 9pm at Happy Hour were one-for-one (no sharing - so each person has to have 2 drinks). We got the Berllini ($15) - if you’re not an fan of stronger tasting alcohol stay away - and Pimms and Lemonade - the perfect light and refreshing cocktail.

I’d love to return someday to try out their other food and drinks ;)

Went on a Saturday night at 7pm, and we didn’t have to queue, but there was only one table left indoors which was in a corner, and the outdoor seats were next to the smoking area… we settled for the outdoor seats. Moral of the story - reserve seats in advance.

Dakk Galbi (~$30 iirc) at 2D1N, Tanjong Pagar Road

4 of us girls had this Dakk Galbi (chicken, basically) which comes with rice cake, Tangsuyok (sweet and sour pork), and an egg roll, with 2 bowls of rice - the servings were hugeee and together with the (refillable!) side dishes, we had much difficulty even trying to finish it~

We spent $80 in total for that (pretty normal or even slightly cheap for a korean meal in singapore, I would say, given the serving size) - satisfying, but definitely still a little different taste-wise from korean food in korea I would say (like, spiciness level is like 0 here for dak galbi and 10 in korea, maybe lol).

Anyhow, I wouldn’t mind returning again. Would be a good choice to make reservations in advance.

Ratatouille Omelette ($12) at Epicurious, Robertson Quay

My friend had this while I had the Baked Eggs with Toast Soldiers, and another friend the green eggs with ham. All were decent, and sufficiently filling for girls (probably for guys as well… maybe?). Might be a little over-hyped, this place, in my opinion, given that the food is just ok, and the place is pretty inaccessible by public transport hmm.

Place was small on the inside (there are outside seats), but we managed to get a table without waiting on a Saturday morning at 10. They don’t take reservations on weekends, anyway.

Squid Ink Pizza (~$23) @ Skinny Pizza, Raffles City
Pretty cool...

Squid Ink Pizza (~$23) @ Skinny Pizza, Raffles City

Pretty cool with the really crispy base, topped with squid, squid ink sauce, veggies, etc. Since squid ink essentially has no taste in a way, don’t be expecting any fancy flavours or something. I think it’s pretty decent actually!

We also had the English Breakfast which my friend preferred over the Squid Ink, but personally I thought that the Breakfast was a little too salty for my liking.

We also got the sides at 3 for $15 - truffle fries (nothing special in my opinion), Harissa prawns (pretty interesting), and mashed potatoes (not bad!).

All the above for a table of 4 girls, and I think it filled me up decently - guys would definitely not be satisfied though!

I’d probably return again, though it is a little towards the pricey end (but still acceptable).

We went on a weekend at 6pm, and the place was pretty empty. Come 7pm the place was packed with a queue, so I’d advise you to go early.

Steamed Custard Bun (~$4 for a long of 3) @ Yum Cha Garden,...

Steamed Custard Bun (~$4 for a long of 3) @ Yum Cha Garden, Serangoon Gardens

Average dim sum, custard bun was not bad though. That being said, I’d probably return to my usual for dimsum (as mentioned before - crystal jade at vivocity, imperial treasure at ion).

The best custard bun I’ve ever had was a imperial treasure at ion, but the recent visits have left me slightly disappointed - taste-wise ok, but the buns could have been steamed for slightly longer for a more fluffy texture and so that they are hotter.

Dimsum-wise, vivocity crystal jade (though imperial treasure at ion comes close too). I’ve yet to try tunglok signatures at vivocity - I’d like to try that next time.

The place at Yum Cha Gardens is big (which I like) - we went at 10am on a Sunday morning and there were seats. Still, to be on the safe side you might want to call in to make a reservation beforehand.

Wok-Seared Chicken Chop (~$17) @ Fullhouse at Rendezvous Hotel,...

Wok-Seared Chicken Chop (~$17) @ Fullhouse at Rendezvous Hotel, near Plaza Singapura

Food was decent. We also ordered drinks (warm jujube tea) which I personally felt could have been better and hence not worth the price. I probably would not return again… I think.

The place is strangely popular - about 70% full? (I had no idea this place existed until a friend told me about it so I was surprised - expected only a couple of tables to be taken given the not very conventional location). Anyway, there were still seats for us on a weekday night.

Tea Time Set Menu (Fortune) (~$38) @ TWG Tea, Ion Orchard

The set consists a sandwich of your choice, 2 scones or muffins, 3 macarons of your choice and a pot of tea of your choice. Comes with tea jelly and whipped cream. We got the sandwich with smoked salmon and cheese - it may not look fantastic (I was honestly a little hesitant at first when I spied it on other people’s tables cause it looked like it would be dry and not very nice) but it was pretty good! Exceeded my (low) expectations :P

Scones were cool too (better than the usual ones you get outside, but not awesomepossum fantastic) and macarons were ok, the Earl Grey flavour and the Caramel ones were not bad (I’m not particularly into Blackcurrent in general haha).

Tea jelly interesting, and the tea was cool (read-not a tea connoiseur here).

Portion was just nice to share between 2 girls :)

I’d like to return to try out their leg of lamb (looked pretty appetising from what I spied from my neighbouring table heh).

We went on a Saturday afternoon at 5, it was a quick queue for 5minutes before we got seats. There were empty seats when we cleared out at around 7 though.

Ambush Paella (~$14) @ Ambush, Bishan J8

Food was ok, nothing to shout about. Would advise you to skip the paella if you’re a sucker for super fresh seafood (coughmecough). The other dishes are ok, I guess. I won’t object to a return visit, but probably for other items on the menu.

We got seats after a 3 minute wait on a weekday night at 6pm, but as we left we saw a short queue outside.
